What’s Your Role at The Carers Centre?

I am a Carers Mental Health & Wellbeing Worker working part time and flexible hours.

My role include facilitating regular

  • 'Together We Care' Self Advocacy and Support groups where carers are able to get together with other carers, find out a wide range of information about caring, gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to get the services they need, learn new tips to look after their own well-being.

  • 'Caring for Carers’ offering 1-2-1 and small group support for carers who are struggling with their mental health and/or wellbeing.

How did you get involved with The Carers Centre?

I first got involved with The Carers Centre shortly after moving to the East Midlands in 2006 with my sons one of which has additional needs. Being new to the region I needed support and The Carers Centre was one of the organisations I found that had a great amount of experience in supporting carers.

Although it was quite a distance to travel I tried to attend a variety of groups ranging from Carers Support Carers, Crafts, Wills and Trust and Coffee Mornings. I was hooked and soon became a volunteer promoting The Carers Centre LeicesterShire and Rutland’s events and activities in a e-newsletter I produced and on social media sites.

So when I saw the advert for the post of Communications Officer I thought why not apply for it? Since then my role has grown and developed into what it is now.
