Information for Professionals
Please get in touch with us if you would like any further information about how our carer 'offer' can support unpaid carers you are in contact with.
Many carers do not think of what they do as being a carer – they see their role simply as looking after a loved-one. There are over 150,000 family carers in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, many of whom are ‘hidden’ and do not know that support is available for them.
Our experience is that carers are more likely to engage where professionals are proactive in identifying them as carers and refer them to carer support services like The Carers Centre.
Find out more about how carers have been supported by The Carers Centre by reading the story of Suzanne below.
Suzanne's story
Suzanne cares for her partner who has Parkinsons
She was referred by a Social Prescriber at her GP surgery following a visit to the GP because she was feeling down and had recently given up work.
She joined a 'Together We Care' group at The Carers Centre. Suzanne said she was hoping the group would help relieve the impact of the isolation.
Since coming to the group, Suzanne says:"I feel like I’m not on my own now - I know now that other people feel the same way I did. I feel less alone. It makes you realise other people are in the same boat, they are managing so I can too. You come away from the group feeling a lot happier”.
